Summer Activities
The meeting began with Waverly introducing the Book Launch which will occur on June 23 between the hours of 11:00 and 2:00. All members of EIYSA are invited to attend. There will be youth performers between 12:00 and 1:00 as well as a cake and snacks. All in attendance were also invited to be part of the Service Fair that will be held in conjunction with the launch. Anyone wishing to be part of the Service Fair should email Kathy at katherinem@osp.ab.ca to confirm a space at one of the tables. Tables will be allotted on a first come first serve basis.
City of Edmonton- Deedee Carr
The Summer Guide lays out 180 Little Green Shacks registered day programs. Registration has begun. If a family is a Leisure Access participant, they receive 75% off of the registration fee. This program is inclusive and can accommodate children with mild to moderate special needs. Little Green Shack programs are sponsored and subsidized by Community Leagues. The Play and Save program enables the working poor, who are not eligible for Leisure Access to participate in city run programs. When registering for a Play and Save program, the registrants must quote the code in the Play and Save pamphlet.
There are also drop in programs for youth 13-17, including skate board parks, street hockey and basketball tournaments. Four more information visit the youth website at http://www.edmonton.ca/for_residents/programs/youth-programs.aspx.
Leaders in Training is for youth 13-17. There is a $20 application fee and a 10 minute interview before being accepted. The youth commit to two weeks of volunteering. If the participant is a Leisure Access holder, the fee is waived.

Interviews for the June 6 Life Skills class are occurring now.
July 25-August 26 Summer Life Skills Program is available to 13-17 years old youth who are struggling with school, home or peer-related issues and are willing to honestly examine how their present beliefs and behaviours may be affecting their situation.
Youth do not have to have Child Welfare status and service is provided at no cost. There is a Support Circle half way through to which parents and supports are invited and a graduation ceremony at the end. Anyone can make a referral to the program. Interested individuals should call Chimo, (780) 420-0324 to book an interview. Interviews are held the week prior to group.
Action for Healthy Communities- Cherie
Free Summer Camp occurring July 4-29. This camp is for immigrant and refugee youth who are in high school. There are five locations and each location can work with 20-25 youth. Participation in the camp gives the participants 5 credits towards their high school diploma and a bus pass for the month. There is a $30 fee up front but that money is given back when the camp is completed. There is 1 teacher and 2 camp assistants at each site. Catholic school students must attend the St. Joe’s High School site because credits don’t transfer between the public and Catholic schools. For more information or to register call 780-944-4687.

Drop in for youth 14-24. Special events happen on a weekly basis, these need to be signed up for.
Edmonton Public Library- Jenn
EPL has both system wide initiative and branch specific initiative. System wide initiatives include Edmonton Youth Week, Teen Reading Club Online, Teen Read Week, Teen Tech Week and an upcoming Facebook Project that will start in October. All EPL branches have a dedicated Teen collection (including graphic novels, comics, manga, DVDs and music), one hour of daily free internet access, a Teen Representative responsible for teen programming and a Community Librarian responsible for exploring collaborations. EPL is more than just books, providing youth with the opportunity to participate in a variety of programming, including: DJ Program, Hip Hop History Program, Tech Boot Camp, Manga Drawing Workshop, Board game tournaments, Texting tournaments and Murder mysteries.
EPL has Safe Harbour Status. Teen services are planned for all teens using an inclusive model. Alternate arrangements can be made for library cards for youth not living at home or who do not have a permanent address. “InReach” at Milner works with the Bill Rees YMCA, John Howard Ree*start program, Native Counselling Services, the City of Edmonton and Boyle Street Education Centre. There is a forthcoming teen parent storytime session. Teen programs at Milner are open to a larger spectrum of youth-up to the age of 25. EPL recently hosted High Risk Youth Uncensored workshop to help improve staff attitudes towards working with high risk youth.
EPL Strathcona Branch-Joy
Teen tech boot camp will be happening July 4,11,18,25. at epl.ca you can download free music. There is digital storytelling using Utube. There is a Summer Reading Club for children 6-12, Pre-school programs for 0-3. July 4-31 the outdoor reading room is open, shelves of books can be borrowed or kept.
Town of Beaumont-Chantal Berube
The Youth Centre is open M-Th 1-7 and F 3-9 drop in for youth 13-17. Once a month 6-11 year olds are invited to be mini teens. The older youth mentor them. YMCA-Laura Gingra
Sky High is a summer adventure program to expand leadership and self esteem.
For 13-15 year olds it is July 4-15.
For 16-17 year old it is August 3-19 with a wrap up on August 23. This program includes a camping trip. There is a nomination form for youth and an interview to ensure commitment.
Kid Sport-Steve
This is a country wide non-profit which provides sport registration fees for youth 18 and under to be able to participate in organized sports. Either the parents can show financial by showing their tax forms or through a referral source. Registration money is then given to the sports organization. 19 year old are eligible if they are still in high school.
Queer Prom-Scott Mair
June 4, 2011
Ages 12-25 free at Enterprise Square. Fun, dance, food, and a resource area. 7-11 pm.

Camp is completely booked. There were 100 applications and 60 campers chosen.

Alberta Health Services Addictions and Mental Health
The intensive day treatment program now has continuous intake every Monday. Making a Change happens Thursdays 4:30-6:30 for youth who need less intensive support. Parents information services takes place at the same time.
Boyle Street Education Centre
Program ends on July 7 with an August 29 start for next semester.
Terra
Is having its 40th anniversary on June 25 and ask that alumni be informed so they can go to the big BBQ.
